I'd just say, keep it at 4. At least your not paying a monthly fee, so technically. I'd just say.. be happy with what we have right now.. its only been 2-3 month since the release of the full game. Maybe if you cough up a bit more for the expansion, we might just get more slots for our characters ^_^ then again.... I wouldn't mind having 6 slots =P

6 would be good but I would rather see more slots in the Storage for my inventory...

play it smart and use your 4 slots wisely is my advice, make sure all professions are covert in 3 characters since there are 6 professions do the math it works out perfectly

I wouldn't expect them to provide more for free. I'd pay for slots - 30$ is a lot, I was thinking more 20$ for 4 additional slots, but it's a profit thing - if they set it to high they won't get the volume needed for a maximum profit, if they set it to low they won't benefit much from it as they'll saturate the extra slots market at low profits. We'll see though - the demand is there, it's feasable and will generate money, so my guess is that we'll see it, and probably not too far off.

For all we know it has already been coded and they just need the distribution system (pre-order style boxes? Special cards with a code printed on them? Internet sales? red tape slows all this stuff down...).
Somehow i dont think its been coded. Assuming that isnt very safe at all. Whats safter to assume is that its an idea. Also, i dont think 20 would satisfy. 30 is more appropriate considering its like buying another copy of the game. Also, just because people got off topic doesnt mean you should get off topic too. And then try to make a point using your off topicness. The end.

i did the math.

4 character slots minus 6 primary professions characters = negative 2

thanks for clearing that up for us. genus!

p.s. i like my two accounts. now just wish there was someway to move items and unlock things on both of them at the same time

I would like to be able to have three chars that are pve (each covering 2 classes for skill unlock) and still have more than one pvp char at a time. 4 slots is definately not enough. 6 would give me 3 PvE unlocking chars and 3 slots with which to work with pvp builds. Not unreasonable at all.

Please, if you need more charicters to spend 100-200 hours on finishing the game, you either need to move out of you parents house, go to school, or try spending the possible 800 hours completing the game with four charicters.

erm? ok dood... my parents are dead. i'm done with school. and it only too me around 30 hours max to finish off my first character. that was playing a lot of quests.

bad ASSumption bro. read the other posts. nobody mentioned they wanted 2 more characters to keep them busy for 200 more hours.

Plenty of variability across 20 different characters...and if you get bored with 5 of your characters, delete one and create a new primary profession and play it that way. Also, it makes it harder for people with macros to operate, mainly because people can't set up 1 of each profession and 2 pvp characters through macro and have things done while they sleep. There's a lot to consider when making larger accounts, and one of the most material things would be with the servers. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that your GW characters are held on GW servers. The power to use these servers is given to us for free, and I would be happy if they gave us all one character, because it's not every game that does things like that. So...not all their customers agree to having 8 characters, and these are just a few reasons, and I'm sure there's others.
this is a really good explanation but i have just a few tweeks 2 it... uve prolly seen me complaining about how botters and farmers and not wrong at all.. but see my point is ppl use there own time. 2 make money off of a game. hell i dont sit here for hours day in and out playing but ppl hoo can make money off it great i see ppl selling thousands of gold on ebay and good for them they spend there hard earned time here 2 make a profit out of it i think its pretty decent.. but having 8 characters instead of 8 is not gunna attract more ppl 2 macro or w.e. its not gunna make a difference arena.net did a great thing of making us not pay for a good game but 4 characters is a little 2 low u should have room for atleast 1 of each character "primary " 6 would be a nice amount becuz look at diablo 2 u can have 8 characters and its also free? so i dont see why not on this game aswell

I can't make a warrior or an elementalist due to all my slots being filled up.
I have lvl 20 Me/N, 20 R/Me, and 18 N/Mo. I have no intentions on deleting either of these characters.

Cnegurozka made some good points. We shouldn't be thankful this game isn't buggy. We paid $50 for this game, so we should automatically assume it's going to be bug free for the most part. When one buys a car, they expect not to have any problems, etc.

Also, buying another account does not help a thing. They can't be "linked" up as previously stated. If I get a new account, I have to start RPing all over again to make a decent PvP character. I for one have no intentions of doing this.
If someone asked me how many classes there are in GW, I would say that there are 30. W/N plays different from W/Mo, which plays different from N/W and Mo/W. You are only focusing on your primary profession and not taking into consideration that that secondary profession in combination with your primary profession yields the class you play.

Now I never said my solution was perfect, but you can play more than just 4 characters if you think about it.

One of the reasons the GW economy is in such bad shape right now is that the designers are trying to give everyone what they want, and so precious items are too prevalent, and semi-precious ones are consequently worthless. It IS possible to give too much of a good thing.

I'd like more characters too, but I'm perfectly happy to wait until the expansion to get them. I want Anet to do well financially (and therefore for this game to be around awhile), and the expansions are the economic plan which will make that feasible. Giving everyone what they want is not.

So relax, cool your jets, and make the most of the slots you have. Me, I have three dedicated characters, plus one that I restart continually and often use to create PvP characters of all builds. That one slot leaves a lot of versatility open.

How about if you buy a second copy of the game and add that additional key to your account it allows you 4 more character slots. You can already do this if you buy another copy but it would be nice to have all 8 or however many characters tied to one account. Also adding an aditional key could double your storage.

This game isn't pay-to-play and I'd like to keep it that way. Future character slot expansions have been discussed by AN and Gaile has already stated that they indeed may end up as a game expansion feature. I don't blame any of you for not knowing this, but this is only the hundred-billionth thread on the subject. Hell, this is probably the hundred-billionth thread asking for a feature we have already had feedback on.

Default Game's mechanism makes us need at least 1 more slot

Firstly, his characters may have 15k armor or better, or have very nice equipment customized for him.

Secondly, I highly doubt you unlocked all the skills with your 2 characters... getting one character to unlock two lines of skills (even when doing all the quests that give skill-rewards) is still tight, never mind doing 3 each

And of course, note that when you switch secondaries, its even harder to complete the new skill-line because you've already used up all the quest rewards, so thats wayy more skill points you will now need (even now the reduced number is 20,000xp per skill point)

So obviously you never intended to unlock all the skills, rather just the skills that you want without trying them all, but I doubt that ANet thinks that all players would want to unlock only some, like you.

I, like many other gamers, wish to experiment with all possible combinations. The only way to do this is to unlock all the skills. Fine, I'll play PvE to unlock them all, so that I can remake my PvP char at will with any skill.

Maybe I'll get a new account for more slots -- but not only does this have the problem of not being able to cross skills from one account to the other (ie monk unlocked on #1 and mesmer unlocked on #2, but I can't play mo/me on either one at all), but also my fame/rank will be split across two accounts which definitely is wrong.

Ok, I'll unlock with one account.

But for a while now this has forced me into a situation where I really only have 2 PvE chars, because 1 more slot is PvP-exclusive (you never know when somebody is forming a Tombs team and could use you in it instantly), and 1 more for unlocking.

One valid point is data-storage costs. But c'mon I massaged some numbers and think it would cost them pennies.

How much data is there to store? The overwhelming majority of data comes from the items they have in inventory (I'm sure theres a data-simplistic way of remembering how much of the world map is explored, and character looks would be about 4x5 bits so a maximum estimate would be 4 bytes -- not kilobytes)

Because they chose to make PvP char occupy a slot, 4 isn't enough.

Diablo 2 has 6 slots, Dark Age of Camelot has 6 slots per server (so playing on 2 or 3 different servers which was normal so that you could play among the 3 different realms) gives you 12 - 18 slots

I don't know about any other MMORPGs; I haven't played them.

I feel that ANet knows this and chose to leave us cramped as incentive to get the expansion -- Fine.

... but meanwhile I, as well as many other people, am stuck with insufficient slots with no viable solution at all.
